Do Your Feet Hurt?

Foot pain can be some of the worst pain you can experience. After all, you cannot walk without your feet; if they hurt, walking is debilitating. I had surgery last September to correct hammertoes. Hammertoe is when one or more toes overlap another. In my case, the surgery failed, and I had a second surgery on January 2, 2026. Thank God it was successful.

There are multiple reasons for foot pain. Let me share a few with you. Overuse injuries can occur with repetitive stress on your feet. That can lead to stress fractures, small cracks, or severe bruises of the foot bones. These injuries often occur while playing sports that involve a lot of running.

Stress fractures can also occur when wearing unsupportive shoes or walking more than you are used to. It takes six to eight weeks of rest for these injuries to heal.

Injuries related to trauma are another reason for foot pain. Contusions are bruises caused by the crushing of tissue beneath the skin. This minor injury usually gets better with rest.

Dislocations occur when a bone is moved out of alignment. Ligament sprains occur when the structure that connects bone to bone is injured. Muscle sprains occur with overstretching or muscle tears. These injuries require immobilization or surgery to repair.

A long, thin ligament along your arch is called the plantar fascia. When this ligament becomes inflamed or irritated, you develop Plantar Fasciitis. This condition is resolved with home remedies, night splints, or physical therapy.

The pad of your heel can shrink, causing pain when walking. This condition can be caused by overuse, obesity, injury, poor-fitting shoes, or aging. Rest, shoe inserts, and foot strengthening exercises are usually recommended.

Bunions are common and happen when the big toe moves inward toward the others. This causes a painful bump at the base of the big toe. It develops over time from wearing tight-fitting shoes. Wearing a toe pad and wider shoes will help. At times, surgery is needed to correct a bunion.

We have to walk, but if you have pain, the issue needs to be addressed if it gets worse. If you have symptoms such as a fever, the affected area is warm to the touch, an open wound, or tenderness to the touch, seek medical attention.

Some causes of foot pain can be treated with home remedies. These might include rest, ice application, an elastic bandage, elevation, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication, such as Tylenol or Advil.

To keep moving and grooving, take good care of your feet!

Until next time,

Peace, Love, and Blessings ❤️
